Display a Nativity Scene
By Rebekah Binkley Montgomery
It is 380 AD. You and your children are hiding from persecution in the catacombs. You are facing death for your faith in Jesus. Your children, too. Although it is illegal to teach them Jesus is the Way, Truth, and Life, you do anyway—even if it means they will die young. One day, they will die anyway. You want them to know Jesus before that happens,
Before he was martyred for his faith in Jesus, your priest, St. Valentine, had an inspiration. Tradition says he assembled the first known nativity scene to teach the life of Christ. Think of those figures as Fourth Century action figures representing heroes dedicated to saving the world.
Let’s not let Christmas go by without teaching our children the real meaning. Let your children help set up the nativity scene while you explain the importance of each figure.
As you put out your nativity scene, pray for Spirit-filled teachers of the Gospel.
Pray boldness, courage, opportunity, and protection for Christian families living under persecution.
Pray God will anoint future generations to clearly reveal the truth of the Gospel.
